Below is an overview of the course as well as descriptions of the different sessions available during a typical day.
Session 1,2 & 4: Tutorial and Topics
Options A, B and C run through the whole week and you will be in the same group for A, another group for B and yet another for C during the course. There will be a mixture of Tutorials and Topics of all levels on offer in each of Option A, B and C.
Tutorials run through the week and are for those wishing to focus predominantly on solo repertoire and on improving their playing/technique. The repertoire will be for solo recorder as well as for duet/trio. It is very important to prepare the set music in advance if you and others are to benefit fully from the tutorial classes.
Topics run through the week and take place at the same time as the tutorials. The tutors have picked topics which interest them and which they would like to share with the students. The music for the Topic sessions will be supplied on the course. In order to get an idea of how things will work, please look at the links below for last year’s Recorder Summer School.
Sessions 3 and 5: Ensembles
There will 5 or 6 ensembles on offer twice a day, graded in order of difficulty. Students are free to attend whichever they choose and only need to decide the evening before. This will give everyone the opportunity to work with all tutors and play a wide variety of music.
You can see the 2023 Ensemble list by clicking here.
We are very excited to announce that this year the tutors will be doing the concert and will be playing a selection of music taken form the Tutorials and Topics available on the course. It has been 10 years since the tutors did the concert and so we thought that was a great excuse to do it again, especially as everybody enjoyed it so much last time.
Recorder Music Mail will have a well-stocked music shop, including all music required. The Early Music Shop will sell recorders, other early instruments and CDs. Tim Cranmore will be joining us for a day and we hope Anthony Barrett will be able to join us. Please don’t assume RSS’s endorsement of any of these services. Any transactions made are at your own risk.
